Leafing it up

Have you ever stopped to smell the roses.  Or have you ever stopped to look that the design of a leaf.  They are so simple, yet they contain complexity.  They come in many shapes, sizes, colors, and styles.  Yet for all its beauty we rush by them and ignore the beauty around us.

For these reasons we should slow down from our busy day and admire what has been naturally created.

How would our lives be different if we spent some time to slow down?  Would we be less stress?  Would we have less problems in our lives?

I would say that our lives would be better, if we would find balance in our lives.  One way to find that balance is to slow down to reexamine our priorities.  If we slow down without a plan of what we are going to do, then we might find it boring and then never do it again.  So we need to have a plan.

I would suggest the following plan to start with:

  • Find something to admire or watch from nature such as leaves
  • Think about what you have done in the past day, week, or month
  • Evaluate if the things you have done are really important or have they just wasted time
  • If they were important ask yourself "Did I give up something more important to do this activity?"
  • If you did give up something more important, then think about a way to bring the most important things back into your life.
If we are able find balance in our lives, then maybe we will be able fix some of the diseases that we have because of stress.

Green smoothy

How it might be
That we must see
The things before you
That we must pursue

Finding life in things done
Underneath the sun
Combining them together
From things we gather

The end is green
As the plants seen
That were added for health
And not for stealth

We hope we grow
With nutrition sown
In our green drink
To prevent the dreary brink

Far Far Away

Here we sit thinking
About the great world around us
It passes by as we continue blinking
Wondering why everyone has to fuss
How small we really are
When compared to those afar
How can we continue on
Underneath the sun

Why are we here
Instead of there
When all thing can go wrong
Why don't we sing a sad song
About the insignificance of our lives
That could end by knives
Without the love of our wives
In these dives

Why does anything exist
If nothing once existed
What enjoy the great dark bliss
What caused the bleak void to be resisted
The loneliness of nothing
Was replaced with massive things
What caused the chaos to become order
The great worlds to gain border

What caused the great nothing to gain lives
The type of life to think of what can be
And what could be with wives
As far as we can see
Here we sit thinking
As it passes us by as we are blinking.

Have you ever wondered
Why life is passing you by
You have been doing everything right, without blunder
But just cannot get ahead, sigh.

You have been following the rules
As set by your boss.
While everyone else is in the raise pool.
While you grow moss.

Your friends and family are gaining ground
In the world around you
While you hardly make a sound.
It make you want to sue

Then you realize what you have done
Why you are left in the dust
This simple rule you follow when all else is done.
This you must

If at first you don't succeed
Don't follow the instructions.

I have never thought of this before
Is this why I am left in the dust
Have I been following those sore
Leaders that build crust.

Have they been keeping me down
Have I allowed them to much room
That I almost drown
To allow them to stand on my shoulders

This cannot be
This is not so
That all that I have learned about me
Is the undoing that I must do.

How can this be
That I must see
Before I count to three
I will start to build my future tree.

The tree of success.
The tree that the liberals are afraid to see
Because it shows that they are undressed
For they are the king with no clothing to see

They have taught us so little
About the world around
In hopes that they could belittle
As they abound

To this struggle I must end
The pain they caused
That I will see in the end
So they can feel this emblem embossed

Now I must say adieu
For if I stay they ensue

Rain Rain

Rain Rain everywhere
Drenching the seeds, bees, and bears
How I wonder, how I got here.

One day you were gone
Then we got some cloud for
Rain Rain everywhere

Days of drought cause us pain
But when we get to much of you then you
Drenching the seeds, bees, and bears

The longer I travel
Through your heavy downpour
How I wonder, how I got here.

What a sight
Oh how bright
You are to night

As I bow
I wonder how
I will go now

The songs of your praise
Give me raise
As I fall into a daze

For I love how you look
And not in a cook

As the night comes to an end
And you begin your descend
I will miss you my friend.

Cloudy Night

I went out side to see a site
Nothing was as it should have been
The moon was hiding
For it was cloudy outside.

There were claims
That the night would be great
For the moon was as large as can be, so
I went out side to see a site

Looking up into the sky
Searching for the light of time
I looked and looked, but
Nothing was as it should have been

I could not see the stars
I could not see the sky
I could not see the light of the moon
The moon was hiding

Disappointment raced through me
I was not going to see
The great site of the night
For it was cloudy outside.

Gently flowing down the hill
Going were it fits the bill
Gathering power as it goes
Being helped by the wind that blows

Leaving behind that which grows
For which more glows
Quenching the thirst
Of those that burst

Once the path has end
It finishes its descend
I finds its way to begin
To start its path again

Release all that you contain
As we need you to sustain
If we don't get your dive
Non of us will live

Cool and refreshing
I love how you come down
To cool down my dressing
And color all that is brown

Your gentle touch fills
Me with wonder
And feelings of frills
For anticipation of thunder.

I love how you quench
Thirst of all those in the world
You remove the stench
Caused by the filth of the world

Not caring how you role
Some are afraid of me
They should let me be

And so many of us are killed these days
I you leave me alone
My teeth will not be shone

Happy times have come
Others should have some
Pushing out what must come.

How we have this joy
Outside without a ploy
People should have joy

How it is great
Other may share this treat
Prying open the gates that are great

As I look up in the sky
Waiting for time to go by and by
I wish I could glide with you
That way I would not be so blue

Softly and gently going
Where ever the wind is blowing
Looking down on all below
Listening to all those who bellow

If we gain to much weight
All we have to do is cry with all our might

Watering the grass

Here I sit watering the grass
Without any sass.
I hope they will grow
With this water I show.

The more you grow
The more you will show.
Then we all will come
Whether we are smart or dumb.

Great for food
Regardless of how you feel dude
After a while
Pushing at your bile
Even now you want more of it
For it should not sit
Ready for the energy
Until your boss talks of synergy
In these cases you want more
To calm your sore.

Required speeches of thoughts so
Another day I may stay
Away from my glorious cubical without delay.
Nothing gives me more pleasure
In missing another day without measure
Now it is coming to an end
Great expectations are around bend.

When I started
I did not know what would become
Of the art show

I took a woman standing alone
And began to change her
When I started

Transform she did
New shapes were forming, but
I did not know what would become

Finally the pizza began to show
And taking the center stage
Of the art show.

My Face

What is wrong
With my face
Standing beside this tiger?

Am I afraid
Of not knowing
What is wrong?

As I stand close to look.
Getting close to the glass
With my face.

I must know the truth.
Could I be getting close to it by
Standing beside this tiger?

Smart Phone (Cascade)

Talking as if nothing else matters
While looking at the screen
That leaves you oblivious to the world unseen.

Your friend may be next to you
Or across the world but you are
Talking as if nothing else matters

Look up to see the world, but you will not
Because of the excitement you get
While looking at the screen

So many thing go by that would bring you joy.
But you continue to look at other's experience.
That leaves you oblivious to the world unseen.

Have You (Cascade)

Have you ever
Wondered what it would be like
To have more than you do.

To take a stroll down a new road
That so few have taken too
Have you ever

Danced like the stars
While being grounded and
Wondered what it would be like

To give to others in need
because you have been blessed
To have more than you do.

You could do so many things like be in a book.
You could feed someone or two.
You could be used in a photo too.
Placed on a black background.

Or you could play some sports on the ground.

The Adventures of an Average Life

©2014 Brady L.B.

Every day we get up in the morning to live our lives.  We all go to work, pay our bills, eat the same food, and so forth.  Our days come and go without real excitement and change to the world.  What if we changed all that?  What would happen if we changed everyday tasks into adventures?  Would we be happier?  We life seem more sweet?  Would we be less envious of other peoples Facebook lives?  Would we be able to get more done in a single day or even in the hour?  Would we be able to live our dreams instead fulfilling another's dream?  We should find out.  We should explore the possibility.  We should find our dreams and live.

Average Life

I am Average.  I get up every morning before the sun get up, to go to my office job in town.  I have done nothing interesting most of my life.  You may ask how can I stand do these things day in and day out.  I am going to tell you how I am able to get through the day.  How I am able to know that I have done good in this world.  You may want to stop reading, but I would ask you not to.  You may not find what you are looking for until you have traveled the whole path.

The alarm sirens were blaring, telling all that the war of the day had started.  The warrior stirs in his cloud of comfort.  At last the sirens are able to arouse the warrior to the call of duty.  The warier stumbles to the preparation room to perform the rituals that are called for in times of war.  On his way to the preparation room, the warrior silences the alarm sirens.

Once the preparation rituals are completed, the warrior turns off the only lamp he had on.  He does this to test his agility, skill, and to not wake awaiting guards.  He then begins the path is littered with obstacles to the nourishment center of the camp.  Every day the obstacles are moved, new ones are added, and old ones may be removed.  The goal is to maneuver through the obstacles, without waking the sleeping guard.  The warrior manages to miss most of the obstacles, but a few new ones caused the warrior to bruise his toes.  Even with these few mistakes the warrior is able to accomplish the task.

Once in the nourishment center the warrior turns on one lamp.  He begins to start his search in the refrigeration unit and dry storage containers for food that will fill his belly.  After a few moments the warrior makes is decision and begins to fill his belly for the mornings journey.  Once his belly is full he begins to fill his travel pack with rations that he will use in the day's journey.

Now that his belly if full and his travel pack is weighed down with what is needed for the day, he begins his search for his foot protection.  Without his foot protection the enemy will be able to cause damage to him and potential cause his day journey to for not.  At last he is able to locate the foot protection several feet from where he left them in the nourishment center.

As a sit staring at my glass, I wonder to myself what will it look like with a clear soda contained within.  I slowly start poring in the cool bubbly liquid.  The liquid dances as more of it enters the glass container.  At-last the container is filled and the liquid begins to settle.  It becomes clearer and clearer.  It stops with several tinny streams of bubbles rushing for the surface.  These tinny streams of bubbles fascinated me so I look closer.  I watch as the tinny bubbles form on the glass and then lets go of the side.  Another bubble starts to grow in the place of the bother and goes through the same life cycle.  Again and again they grow and let go.  What could be causing them to grow in these few spots?  Is it a micro crack that I can not see?  Or is it that there is a speck of dirt that was not quite washed away?  I will never know for sure, but fascinates me no less.

How would it to be excited about small things in life.

Lets travel back in time, to when we were small.  We got excited about getting a little prizes or praises.  When the simplest things brought joy to our little minds.  Think of how happy we were.  How much less stress we had.

Now we stress over the little things and are not happy when get big prizes or praises.  What has happened that we have lost the joy of life.  Where has our hope of a brighter tomorrow.  It has been lost in our desire to have what others have, or that we think they have.

Why can we not go back to the simpler times?

To come to my table it is bound
Releasing its sweet taste

Bringing pleasure and making me merry
Every now and then I feel kindled
Regret of how they dwindled
Ready to eat them until they are gone

Chocolate Drip

Chocolate is so good
How it goes great on strawberries, dude.
Often eating way too much
Chocolate dripping on such
Other parts of me that don't eat
Leaving smudges on my seat.
After I am done enjoying it so
To late is it to stop stains that just don't go.
Eating them was so much fun, even with the mess so done.

Don't fret at what you see
Replace my clothes will it be
In the end my stomach is full
Putting my clothing in a suds pool.

For some I take control
Even when they go for a stroll
After I have done my work
Regret will lurk.

For if you can control me
Everywhere you be
Another thought will fill you
Relief for doing what you had to do.

For those who do not heed my warning
Eventually someone will be mourning.
Another of your needless adventure
Regret will be their censure.

Morning Pondering

As I sit here thinking to myself.  What could possess me to get up this early?  Do I really need all the bells and trinkets that I have become accustomed too?  If I were to choose a simpler life would I be happier.  All I am doing now is spending more and more time away from those that I love.  Too what end do I do this.  To get a better TV?  To get approval from those who do not really know me?  To get faster internet, so I can see more of things that don't make me happy?

Maybe I should stop all this nonsense and go to what really matters.  What really counts.  Go to a simpler life.

To Win A Million

To win a million would be great
Out of the work force gate

Without it we would survive
In the group we could dive
Never needing to strive

Another day

Many have faltered with this great blessing
Independent of how they are dressing
Little by little it can be wasted
Long boat do not need to be basted
If we could prepare for the future
Others we could help also for the future
Now we might succumb to the green eyed creature

Nothing bring so much joy too all sums
Chances you will like to play bongs
Even when you are alone or acting like bums.

Never quit to just sit by the side
Chances you will be able to do it in a field
Every day you want to slide.

Many think I am the root of evil
On the contrary the love of me is evil
Never do I have real value
Everyone agrees that I have a value
Yes, it is true evil would still exist without me

Many have loved what I represent
Oppression is not what I vent
Now improving free trade is what I represent
Every time I am used
You have won or lost without being fused.

My presence does not control you
O the use of me does not abuse you
Need of me is not there
Everyone uses me to get what they care
Yes, it is you who controls what I am.

With so much food clouding my vision
As if I stuck on a deserted isle.

Bike Race

I must go faster
So that I am the master
Of those around me
I must let them be.

If I slow down
I will not get the crown
That goes to the best
And not the rest.

As I look up
In hopes that I am not the pup.
I notice I have gone
And nothing had been done.

I have not moved one foot
I am feeling kaput.
How can it be
That I could not see.

I am not the winner
And I will not be back for dinner.
What went wrong
Did I not sing the winner's song.

All is lost in the race,
On this fixed base.
I must go now
And give a bow.

Little Penguin (15-3)

Tim continued to watch the concentration camp.  He got his first glimpse of the Citizen Eaters and they were as horrible as their description.  Tim noticed that they followed a certain pattern as they patrolled the area.  They left large gaps in their search and they left the back of the complex mostly unguarded.  Over the years the Citizen Eaters must have gotten tiered of patrolling areas that they thought were never going to have someone there.

Tim decided that he would get closer to the back of the compound that night.  He looked through his supplies to see if anything would help him in his mission.  In the bottom of his back he found some bolt cutters.  He figured that he could use the bolt cutter to get through the back fence and get the prisoners out during the cover of night.

He spent the rest of the day resting so that he would have the energy to sneak around that night.  That night the moon was a haunting red.  Tim used the moon light and the light coming from the encampment to reach the south east side of the compound.  As he got closer he noticed that the fence was larger than he thought and that he was glad that he was not planning to climb over the fence.  He started his work on the fence in a darker area of the compound.  The fence was slightly deteriorated and was easier to cut than if they had kept up the fence.

After getting through the fence, he went to the first hut and slowly opened the door.  The hut was empty outside the blood soaked beds.  Tim mumbled in disgust, "It looks like they eat a hut full at one time."

He went to the next hut in hopes to find a living animal.  To his luck inside was a few penguins from his flock.  Finding them filled him with joy and despair.  They were asleep but their bodies looked as if they had been beaten for years.  He did not know if they would be able to have the strength to escape their prison.  The only way he would know for sure is to wake them up.

He went up to the first one male penguin and gave his a little shove.  The male penguin did not budge.  Tim decided to try a little harder to wake him.  The male penguin woke up with a start and a yell.

When Gold Means Nothing

Food, food where is all the food?
I ripped open all the cabinets that I could find.  There was nothing in them but dust.  I ripped open the last box with a lock on it.  Nothing!  A rat had gotten to its contents before I got here.  The box had torn up paper and plastic with rat droppings mixed in.
This was worthless; I had wasted a lot of time and energy to come up empty handed.
Food, food where is all the food?
I walked towards the door, out of the corner of my eye I saw something glitter.  I went towards it to find out what it could be.  It could be a bottle of some food or drink.  My heart was racing with anticipation of finding something to eat.  It was a gold coin, how disappointing.  I decided to take it with me just in case I find a use for it later.
You may wonder why I was disappointed about finding gold.  The truth is that gold is not worth a lot now days.
I left the deserted house to wander the empty streets to find my next meal.  I bent down to grab some dry grass.  I plucked 3 blades up and stuffed them in my mouth.  This should take my mind off of my empty stomach for a few minutes.  There are still a few houses that I have not checked for food as of yet in this area.  Maybe those houses will have something to eat.
You may be wondering where all of the people in this town are.  That is a simple answer; they were either killed or driven out of this place when the great gold war took place over a year ago.  Those who survived the war now wander the earth looking for food, or they have developed small communities that work together to survive.  I tried to join one of the communities once, but was kicked out immediately because I had no useful skills to offer the community.  Before the great gold war I was a gold dealer and distributor; these days that type of skill is neither wanted nor tolerated.  At first I tried to pretend that I was a farmer, but the community quickly figured out that I neither contained the skills nor the ability to grow food from the earth.  Now I just wander the world in search of food.  One skill that I have figured out is how to make a fire, when I need it.
Making a fire is not always a good thing.  It has its uses such as cooking, keeping warm, and keeping wild animals away.  It also has its problems.  One of the biggest issues is that it alerts bandits that someone is there.  If bandits show up , you hope one of the following is true or you will end up dead: you are in a big enough group to fend off the bandits, your escape route is not blocked, or you are barricaded in enough to protect yourself.  The bandits are usually interested in the following things: gold, food (including human flesh), and killing for the sake of killing.  Those who gather gold are in hopes that it will become valuable again, but it may take generations before people trust in gold again.
I looked at the next house on the road.  This house was bigger than the last.  It was a two story building with faded white siding.  The windows were barred and closed. The entrance to the house was through a covered porch.  The porch posts were deteriorated and falling apart.
At the bottom of the stairs leading to the porch, I could see something yellow.  As I got closer I saw that the yellow object was the flower of a dandelion.  I raced over and pulled the plant up from the ground.  I pulled the leaves off and stuffed them in my mouth.  The leaves were not in my mouth more than a few seconds before I swallowed.  It took the edge off of my hunger.
I went through the doors and to my surprise; the inside of this house was much nicer than the ones I checked earlier today.  It looked like someone was living here, since it was not as messy as most houses today.
The front room was large with small tables on each side of the room.  A lightly broken chandelier hung from the ceiling.  The lightbulbs were replaced with lightly used candles.  There was a door on each wall of the room.  Directly across from the entrance was a stairway that would lead to the second floor, but it was barricaded so you could not go to the second floor.  Beneath the stairs was a small door that would lead to a broom closet.  Next to the stairway was the door that would lead to the back of the house.  Everything was covered in a heavy layer of dust.  I could see several foot prints in the dust on the tile flooring.  I could not tell how long ago people had come through this front room, it could have been yesterday or months ago.
I thought to myself, "I hope they left something to eat."
I went into the room to the right of the front room.  This room had no exit outside of the door I came in and the barred over windows.  I looked around the room for food.  All that I found was dust and the broken couches that were left in the room.
The room left to the front room was not much better than the room to the right of the front room.  I checked these two rooms first so I could stay close to the front door.
I went back to the front room and took the door directly across from the entrance.  The back room was a large kitchen and dining room.  The back door and windows were barred.  It would seem that the only escape from this house was through the front door.  This made me nervous, because if bandits showed up I would not have any way to escape this house.
I looked around the kitchen.  I found some food in the old refrigerator that had been converted into a dry food cupboard.  I took out the food and checked to see if was still good.  It all appeared to be good so I ate some of it and placed as much of it as I could into a travel pouch that I had.
I looked around the rooms to see what other resources this house could provide outside of the food.  I had left my food pouch on the kitchen table so that I would have better movement while I searched.  There was plenty of wood that could be used to start a fire and a fire place to burn it in the dining room.  When I was about done searching I noticed another door.  I opened the door and found that it lead to the basement of the house.
I went down the stairs to see what I could find.  When I reached the bottom of the stairs, fear filled my whole body.  Before me was a pile of gold in a variety of forms.  The only way this amount of gold would be in one place is if this was the hideout of bandits.  I did not want to stay around to see when the bandits would come back.  I raced back up the stairs to get out of the house.  I grabbed my pouch from the kitchen room table.
I heard a noise coming from outside the house.  I raced to the front room and looked through the window in the front door.  I could see a small group of people gathering in the front of the house.  From what I could see, it was the group of bandits that used this house as their headquarters.  I had to hide.  If they found me I would be dead.  I rushed to the broom closet that was under the stairway.  This would be the safest place to hide in the house.  The other rooms did not provide much cover from being seen from within the house or outside the house and the basement was were they kept their loot, so that would be a place they would go.
I ducked into the closet and tried to hide my presence in the closet.  I sat down, so my movement would not create too much noise.  I could hear the front door open.
“It looks like someone has been here,” came from the first bandit that I could hear.
“Everyone, search the house to see if anyone is still here and if they took anything,” came from the voice of the bandit that seemed to be the leader, because everyone moved at his command.
I could hear the steps of the bandits searching the house.  From the sound of it, there were over a dozen people searching the house.  A thought of worry come over me, when I realized that if they followed my footsteps they would find me in the closet.
The voice of the first bandit came again, “It does not seem that anything was taken outside of a few pieces of food.”
“I guess it could have been worse,” indicated the bandit’s leader.  “Wait a minute; is that a set of footsteps leading to the closet?”  I could hear them coming closer and closer.  The door knob began to turn.
They are coming.

It is amazing that we are influenced by the input we get from others.  For example the other day someone was telling me about the length of an item.  I thought he was talking about a different item.  When I went to measure the item I was thinking about I came up with length that I was told.  I went to measure the item again a few days later and it was two feet longer then my previous notes of how long it was.  The item did not grow in that time, I just perceived it was shorter based on previous data I have gotten.

Little Penguin (14-3)

Traveling to the east was slow going.  The paths were rocky and terrain changed in elevation often.  While Tim traveled he thought about his family that he was giving up.  The rocks that were forming in his stomach where harder to traverse then the rock that battered his feet.  Several days later, Tim was almost out of supplies and wanted to turn around to correct his mistake of not going after his family.  He knew that he could not make the journey back with the supplies that he had left.  The only hope he had is to continue forward until he could find more supplies.

That night he could see a glimmer of light coming from something several miles in front of him.  The thoughts of a town being in front of him raced through his mind and excited him.  He was too tired to continue that night, so he set up camp and sleep.

The next morning Tim got up early and started in the direction of the light that he saw the night before.  Those few mile towards the light did not seam to be as bad as the ones he had traveled the night before, even though the rocks were not any smaller.

A sinking feeling swept through Tim, as he saw a large fence crawl over the last hill that stood between the light and his journey.  The light was given off by a concentration camp.  Tim hid himself as he overlooked the camp.

The camp was in a valley with only one good exit to the north west.  There was a tall fence the surround a group of poorly constructed huts.  The fence had only one entrance that faced the valley entrance.  Tim could see a variety of animals inside the fence.

There you are in my pocket
My blessed wallet.
So much time
We have spent in the climb.

To the places we have gone
And thing we have done.
Money have come and gone
In the night or in the sun.

One thing is for sure
You have more lure.
Your sides show our journey
Sometimes it is uncanny.

Eventually we will have to part
As another comes with me for a start.
You will have outlived your usefulness
Once you have taken on lifelessness.

Little Penguin (13-3)

Tim did not want to be around when the Citizen Eaters showed up, but he knew that if he did not have any supplies he would not get very far from the town.  He knew that he would have to give into Rupert's demand of staying until the end of the day.

"I guess I will have to stay.  I will need your help to catch up with my family.  Do you know about how far I will have to go to find them?"  Tim inquired to mislead Rupert.

"I do not know how far your journey will be or if you will even make it.  The thing that matters right now is that we need to get to the restaurant.  Now, let's get going," Rupert indicated.

Rupert's restaurant was not far from the house.  They arrived at their destination within a few minutes of leaving the house.  The restaurant was nothing flashy.  It was a small building that did not look much different than the houses around it.  Inside there were a few tables set up for customers and small kitchen in the back.

Rupert's restaurant was not busy the whole day.  Tim wonder what was the reason that the restaurant was not busy.  He came up with a few ideas.  The first was that the Citizen Eaters were destroying business throughout the town by scaring away visitors and by capturing the towns citizens.  Another possibility was the only thing on the menu was fish cooked in different ways.  No mater why Rupert's business was not doing well, he could not be making enough to keep it afloat.

Tim felt bad that Rupert was not doing well in life.  First his family was taken from him, then his business is not doing well.  Tim knew it would be only a short time before Rupert would not be able to pay his taxes and the Citizen Eaters would be coming after him.  He knew now more than ever that he should not stick around this town.

Back at Rupert's house they put together a travel pack that Tim could take with him.  It contained food and some medical supplies that would help in the track that lay before him.

Rupert wanted Tim to stay the night and leave in the morning.  Tim would not hear of it and insisted that he leave immediately.  Rupert insisted that he help Tim to the edge of the town.  At the west end of town they stopped and said their goodbyes.  Rupert stayed at the edge of town to watch as Tim went away.

Tim continued west until he could not see Rupert anymore.  Once out of sight of Rupert, Tim turned to start his trip around the town so that he could head east.  If the Citizen Eaters were heading west, Tim figured the best direction to head was east.  Making his way around the town took some time and the sun had gone down by the time he started his eastward journey.

Little Penguin (12-3)

"I will be going out on my own," Tim told Rupert.  "I need to find my own path and not be stuck here in a small town."  Tim knew that the words he said would be taken badly.  He did not want Rupert to try to convince him to stay.  To his surprise Rupert did not show any sign of discomfort to what he had said.

"Where will you be going?  Are you going after your family or are you going to try and hide from all this?" asked Rupert.  Rupert was trying not to show his feeling to the young penguin.  He was shocked that Tim had been so rude about the place that he called home, but he realized that Tim had gone through a shock and would probably lash out at those who had not hurt him.

Tim was taken back by what Rupert had said.  Did he know what he was planning or was he just taking a wild guess?  Tim replied, "Does it matter where I am going?  I am just not going to stay here."

"It does matter.  If you are going after your family you will need some supplies to get there.  If you are just going to go and hide, then I will not be able to help you, do that."

Tim thought on Rupert's words and measured what he was saying.  He did not want to leave without anything to get him started.  If he lied to Rupert would he be able to tell?  Tim had ponder long enough that it was making Rupert uneasy.  Tim could see that Rupert was becoming uneasy with the silence.

"I am going after my family," Tim lied.

Rupert tried to understand if Tim was telling the truth.  He then decided that he would test what Tim was saying.  If Tim was willing to help him out in his restaurant for one day, then Rupert would assume that he was telling the truth.

"I am glad that you are not going to run and hide.  I do need one thing before you go.  I need you to help me out in my restaurant and after I close for the day then I will help you pack for tomorrows departure.  Will that work for you?" inquired Rupert.

Tim did not want to wait until the end of the day.  The Citizen Eaters may show up in the town while he was there if he did not leave soon.

"I need to leave as soon as possible.  If I don't leave now then I will not be able to catch up," Tim said nervously.

"I am sorry, but I can't help you until the end of the day and I will not allow you to rummage through my stuff without me here.  If you are not going to wait then you will have to go without my help," insisted Rupert.

Keep it short
As you go to the court
Of your peers
And onlookers.

You have so few letters
To convince them that you are better
Then others they read
On the electronic feed.

You may surprise
The the eyes
Or burn
Their concern.

As long as you write
Within their site.
You can be seen
By those who are keen.

If you with in hold
Instead of being bold,
Then they will not behold
Your inner gold.

Write what you know
Before you grow
Out of the knowledge
You can't get at college.

Write, I tell you Write
Write what is bright
Or what is right
To be within sight.

If you don't we will not grow
With the words that you sow.
Let us grow
Please let us grow.

Little Penguin (11-3)

The next morning Rupert opened the door and called in, "Time to get up.  We would not want to waste the day now would we?"

Tim shifted in the bed and grunted.

"Come on now," indicated Rupert.

Rupert did not take a step in the room.  Rupert felt a twinge of fear that he might have to enter the room to wake up Tim.  Rupert banged on the wall in an attempt to wake up the sleeping penguin.  The little penguin moved a little more lively then he had done so far.

"I have cooked fresh fish for breakfast and I have to go work soon.  You cannot stay in my house while I am gone.  I am sorry for what happened to your family, but I can't trust you yet to be alone in my house," sternly Rupert communicated.

"Can I have a few more minutes?" inquired Tim.  He was fully awake after Rupert banged on the wall.  He did not want to get up.  He felt hopelessness throughout his whole body.  He thought that if he got out of bed that they Citizen Eaters would show up at the door to drag him away.  He knew that he could not stay in that bed forever, but he wanted to delay it as long as he could.

"Okay, just a few more minutes.  If you are not up by the time I get back I am going to throw you out onto the street without anything to eat."  Rupert hoped that Tim would get up before he had to leave, he really did not want to enter the room.  He did not know if he could kick the kid out on the street without filling his stomach.  He had made similar threats to his children when they were in home, but he never went through with the threats.  Thinking about his children caused a pit to form in his stomach.

Rupert was waiting at the dinner table with a empty plate in front of him.  He was staring in the direction the bedroom hoping that Tim would come out any second.  The door to the room where Tim was staying in started to creep open.

Tim knew that he had waited longer than a few minutes, but Rupert did not come to get him from the room.  Tim peaked through the door as it opened, to see if any Citizen Eaters or Rupert were waiting outside the door.  He stuck his head out and looked around to find which direction he would go.  He saw Rupert to his left waiting at the dining table.  Maybe he had not taken as long as he thought.

"Your fish are getting cold.  You better come and sit down."

Tim sheepishly made his way to the table.  He took a seat and began to eat.  Tim and Rupert stared at each other for what seemed like forever.  Rupert broke the silence with a question, "Have you decided what to do?"

If You Want

If you want
To go and flaunt
Think of those
Who will not dose.

Some will go and some will stay
So many are delayed.
If you stand out
Others may shout.

So make sure it is worth
The time you spend in someone's girth.
If it is they will be glad
To know that you are not bad.

If you stay silent
They will not become violent.
They may stand out
While you pout.

You may learn
Or you may burn
For that time
That you should chime.

Times will come and go
Just as the wind blows
It is up to you
How you may come unglued

In the end you should do what is right
Whether it is in or out of sight.

Silent Love

Sitting so still,
I am trying not to be a pill.
I hope to see the gaze
From the one I want praise.

If only I can catch their glance
I might have a chance
To find that happiness
Instead of sadness.

I just need to be silent,
To make a dent
In their ever caring stare
Without it I can't bear.

Why will they not look
I am just a open book.
Do they not care
How I fair.

This is not fair
for them not to care.
I just need them now
So I don't feel like a cow.

I am just an animal to them
From it I shall stem.
If to them that is all that I am
Can't I be their lamb.

I would come up
So I could be like a pup.
They could touch me soft
So I would not be so aloft.

I just want them to care
So it can be fair.
Why don't they look
I am an open book.
